WHY A CAMPAIGN FOR COURTS?
Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center is looking to raise the last $200,000 that is needed to get us across the finish line to rebuild the three outdoor courts into a fully lit new bank of 4 courts, in time to support the 2025-2026 school year. We are thrilled to share that we have secured $100,000 in matching funds from a small group of generous donors, and we are asking the support from our league team members to immediately match the remaining $100,000 through a friendly competition.
DID YOU KNOW?
- The Boston Public School system has no tennis courts capable of supporting the tennis program. There are 4 courts at English High School, which might support practices, but they are too close together to be used for matches. Aside from Carter Playground in Roxbury, where the BLA boys’ co-op team practices, there are no city-controlled locations with five or more courts, capable of supporting High School Tennis Matches. So where do they actually play? You guessed it – Here at Sportsmen’s!
- Sportsmen’s courts are available to support Boston Public Schools high school tennis practices and matches.
- Sportsmen’s provides the practice and match courts for the BLA girls co-op teams, and the match courts for the boy’s team, at NO COST to the city, which has been the case for years.
- Sportsmen’s hosts Boston Public School’s annual ‘Tennis School Week’ each June which introduces so many more Boston youth to the sport of tennis.
- All of Sportsmen’s kids from afterschool, to tournament training, to summer campers use the outdoor courts.
- Sportsmen’s hosts a significant number of USTA New England Junior tournaments so that players don’t have to travel far.
- Sportsmen’s women’s spring league solely uses the outdoor courts.
