World Mental Health Day | October 10
In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Sportsmen’s will host a Mental Health Resource Pop-Up in the lobby on Friday, October 10, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The table will offer families information, tools, and resources to support mental health.
Throughout the day, Dareen Ali, Sportsmen’s Social Worker, will be available to answer questions, share resources, and help families find support that meets their needs. Visitors can also schedule a one-on-one meeting for additional guidance and resource navigation.
“Mental health isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifeline,” said Dareen. “Our kids carry stories and struggles that often go unseen, and they deserve spaces where vulnerability is met with care, not judgement. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it’s an act of courage, especially in communities shaped by trauma and resilience. And parents need support too. Reaching out doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re choosing to heal, grow, and show up stronger for the people you love.”
Families are encouraged to stop by for a variety of engaging, accessible activities including information on understanding and supporting mental health, coloring pages and take-home activities for kids, fruit-infused water, and depression and anxiety screenings.
Sportsmen’s will also debut its new Resource Hub, an evolving tool designed to make it easier for staff to connect families with local mental health, wellness, and social-service supports.
Supporting Mental Health at Home:
- Mental health matters: Mental health is as vital as physical health and impacts overall well-being.
- Talk openly: Encourage honest talk about emotions and mental health to help children and adults feel safe sharing how they feel.
- Know the signs: Notice ongoing changes in behavior, mood, or daily functioning that persist for more than a couple of weeks.
- Take early action: Knowing and addressing early signs of mental health conditions can increase the chances of recovery and positive outcomes.
Families are reminded that caring for mental health means caring for the whole person. By nurturing relationships, recognizing stress, and seeking help from a doctor or mental health clinician when needed, families can build resilience together.
Join us in supporting mental wellness for all. Together, we can help reduce stigma and remind every family that they are not alone.
