FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Boston, MA – Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center, in partnership with Resonant Energy and Sunwealth, has installed a new rooftop solar array, part of a multi-faceted expansion of its facilities along the Blue Hill Corridor. The project will be celebrated at Shining a Light on Clean Energy at Sportsmen’s, a community celebration and ribbon-cutting on October 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The event, held during National Clean Energy Action Month, will feature remarks from community leaders and clean energy partners on the impact of renewable energy on Boston neighborhoods.
The system’s 359 solar modules will generate enough power to meet about 70% of Sportsmen’s annual electricity needs, cutting carbon emissions equal to taking 40 cars off the road or saving nearly 20,000 gallons of gasoline each year. Beyond reducing the Sportmen’s energy costs, the project also benefits the community by providing low-cost electricity credits to local offtakers, including three Boston homeless shelters.
“This project is not just an investment in Sportsmen’s, it’s an investment in our neighborhoods, local businesses, and a cleaner, more equitable future,” said Toni Wiley, CEO of Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center. “By lowering our energy costs and extending savings to residents, businesses, and homeless shelters, we are showing how clean energy can improve health, advance equity, and build a more sustainable community.”
Last month, Governor Maura Healey convened a statewide Solar Summit with industry and labor leaders, underscoring her administration’s commitment to accelerating solar development, creating good-paying jobs, and lowering electricity costs. The Sportsmen’s project reflects those same priorities at the community level, demonstrating how clean energy can deliver environmental, economic, and equity benefits in Boston’s neighborhoods.
“Sportsmen’s has long served the Boston community by offering vital opportunities for health, wellness, and relationship building,” said Sam Burrington, Project Development Manager at Sunwealth. “Sunwealth, in partnership with Resonant Energy, is proud to deliver a community solar project that will provide energy savings not only to Sportsmen’s but also to local residents, nonprofits, and businesses.”
Over the lifetime of the agreement, half of the project’s energy credits will be sold at a 20%+ discount to low-income residents who qualify under Eversource’s R2 rate or who live in an environmental justice census tract as defined by the state. This model ensures the benefits of solar extend well beyond Sportsmen’s, helping households and small businesses lower their bills while advancing environmental justice.
“The Sportsmen’s project demonstrates how solar can benefit an entire community,” said Isaac Baker, Co-CEO of Resonant Energy. “By reducing monthly energy costs and creating a pathway for other nonprofits and residents to follow, Sportsmen’s is setting an example for Boston and beyond.”
