Sportsmen’s own Coach Harshana will do battle in a semi-friendly (smile) exhibition match on the indoor courts at Sportsmen’s the evening of Friday, May 5th.
Coach Harshana has represented Sri Lanka in Davis Cup play since 2002, and currently holds the record for the most singles victories by any Sri Lankan player in Davis Cup history. He’s a fan favorite among juniors and adults at Sportsmen’s!
His opponent? None other than former Sportsmen’s Coach Gavin Manders, all the way from Bermuda!
Gavin has been playing tennis for 23 years, and has been #1 in every age group in his native Bermuda, where he has also been named Athlete of the Year. He has been ranked # 1 in Bermuda the last 5 years, and has represented Bermuda in 6 years of Davis Cup competition. Gavin is as committed to developing strong junior players as we are here at Sportsmen’s, which was evident during his time with us.
Come out and see these two Davis Cup players battle it out in honor of a long-standing, committed Sportsmen’s family. Sportsmen’s Board Member Ruth Birnberg is sponsoring this event, which includes dinner, in honor of her husband, Tom Shapiros’ XO birthday (hmmm…I guess it’s a secret!)
This Spring Rally will also feature a delectable buffet dinner, and will give two Sportsmen’s Juniors a chance to team up and play doubles as the second event of the evening.
Because of Ruth’s generous sponsorship, your entire entry fee will be tax deductible!
More details will follow soon, but for now, please save the date: Friday, May 5th. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
