The Bud Collins Tennis Welcome Center

Bud Collins — famed journalist, sportscaster, and tennis legend — worked with our founders for more than five decades to build and expand the original Sportsmen’s Tennis Club. Bud introduced Sportsmen’s to Arthur Ashe, Billie Jean King, Donald Dell, Stan Smith, and many others who lent their support for our indoor, year-round tennis center. Bud returned to Sportsmen’s whenever we called and, through word and deed, never failed to remind everyone that Sportsmen’s is more than just another tennis club. For his friendship and undying support, Sportsmen’s is honored to build a facility befitting his legacy.

Spearheaded by his widow, Anita Ruthling Klaussen, and Longfellow Club owner Laury Hammel, the Bud Collins Tennis Welcome Center commemorates the legendary journalist’s commitment to Sportsmen’s mission and the need to grow urban tennis.
The Welcome Center will also include a brand new tennis pro shop, as well as community and administrative spaces.
The Bud Collins Tennis Welcome Center is one of six pillars of Phase II of our Capital Campaign.
