Education

The Learning Center at Sportsmen’s (TLC), our comprehensive suite of year-round academic support and enrichment programs, works to give young people the skills and support they need to succeed in school and beyond. Sportsmen’s partners with five nearby schools – Brooke Mattapan, Sarah Greenwood, Pauline Shaw, William Monroe Trotter and Lee Academy – and many students come to our programs struggling academically and performing below grade level. Using a proprietary curriculum, TLC provides individualized academic support combined with social emotional learning, enrichment, and tennis to help students meet and often exceed grade level benchmarks.

Our programs have been recognized for quality and impact, and consistently rate highly on Boston Afterschool and Beyond’s Program Report for Improvement and System Measurement (PRISM). This pillar of our capital campaign will double learning space, allow us to scale critical programming, and enable us to hire more educators and staff members.

Investing in the Education pillar of our capital campaign will allow Sportsmen’s to fund critical initiatives, such as our Academic Enrichment Center Expansion, Afterschool Drop-in Program, and Accessibility & Wellness and Administrative Spaces.

Academic Enrichment Center Expansion: $2M

Our highly structured academic program currently serves 36 students from kindergarten age through third grade. The Academic Enrichment Center Expansion will increase capacity for the upstairs K-3 program to 51 students and allow The Learning Center to hire more educators, lowering our student-teacher ratio.

The expansion will also include an entirely new Afterschool Drop-in Program on our mezzanine level. Geared towards students in third grade and above, the center will host 20-25 children at a time, feature a state-of-the-art computer lab with six to eight brand new PC stations, and be staffed with capable, caring classroom monitors.

This addition will allow us to reclaim previously unutilized open-air space and to create cutting-edge Wellness and Administrative spaces to benefit the entire Sportsmen’s community.

Education is one of six pillars of Phase II of our Capital Campaign. Learn more about the others here.
